Sounds a bit like a pyramid scheme - the only real money is to refer people who in turn can only make money by referring other people.

In my experience building up solid information products in a market which has hungry buyers in it and fits in with your interests is the most proftable way to go. It takes a long time to build a head of steam but like all things in life you start to gain benefits as soon as you have some momentum (it is harder to get a car rolling when you first start pushing it then to keep it rolling once it is going).
